Yesterday was 7 miles. The first 3 miles always KILL me. It seems like everytime I want to run the baby thinks, "hmmm, I think I'll settle down right onto mom's bladder!" I always think that I am going to have to walk the entire race, but then there is the THRESHOLD. I have a very specific route now. I run the first mile, stop for a potty break at the "hatch" (local outdoor theater) feel uncomfortable for another 2 miles and then I get into a rhythm. Past the Museum of Science, over to Cambridge and I'm feeling good. Nobody can stop me now! I know, I know, I probably look ridiculous with my large belly jogging my 12-minute miles! But seriously, I wouldn't have it any other way. It feels great and I am hoping to continue my jogs up until the end. A lot of people have asked me if it is safe to run during pregnancy. So far it is safe, for me. I have been running on a regular basis for awhile now, so there is no change to my normal routine. Most OB's and Midwives agree that as long as you don't try adding something new to your excercise routine you should be able to continue throughout pregnancy. Let's be honest here too. . . ..12-minute miles?! That's not exactly pushing my limits! haha! I just try to be sure that I am not huffing and puffing throughout my runs. I want to be sure I am getting enough oxygen to keep myself and baby feeling good! And, rest assured, if my body says stop. I will! I know that I am a vessel of life right now and I take my job seriously!
After my run Chris and I took Micah down to the river to play some ball. He looks like such a trouble maker in this picture! Cast on the arm, AC DC shirt, long unruly hair! Watch out world!
Micah is doing great with his arm! He is such a brave little guy. Last night I just HAD to give him a bath because he was so dirty and kind of smelly. The Dr. said no baths b/c the bandage needs to remain dry. SO, I thought, well, I will put his arm in plastic and only put a little bit of water in the tub. Of course, at the end of his bath he slips and falls into the water bandage arm first! Some water got into the bag and he came out a little damp. Um, I feel sheepish. I call the nurse at the hospital and she says we need to come in to have the bandage changed. Yeah, I felt really awful. Not only did my son have to take a midnight visit to the ER for a bandage change, but I totally did something I shouldn't have because I just wanted my child to be clean. NOT worth it. Next time I'll listen to the doc. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing. :)
