Our brave little boy!

The original bump before surgery

Yesterday was a long, exhausting day for all of us. We had originally planned the surgery for 8AM in order to avoid fasting all day, but they had to move the surgery back until 4PM due to some scheduling conflicts. So, we woke up pretty early in order to get some milk and breakfast before our long day of fasting. Micah did pretty well up until he saw me eating a piece of bread (I thought he was in the other room!). He then said, "Mommy, I want some bread too!" I had to tell him that the Dr. said he couldn't eat anything before surgery b/c it would make him sick, etc, etc. He then said in a sad sad voice, "I can't have the bread. . . ." He was so lethargic all day. Poor guy. Thankfully he fell asleep around noon and we were able to have a restful hour before leaving for the hospital.

A little sweet treat wishing Micah a successful surgery from Cindy

When we got to the hospital Micah was a little overwhelmed. There were clowns in the lobby and he said in a whisper, "daddy, the clowns!" They took us back into the pre-op area where Micah could dress into his gown and wait for surgery. That ended up being about 2 hours of waiting. He had a great attitude though! He had his own personal TV and there were some toys to play with, so that seemed to pass the time quickly.

Getting ready for surgery

Just as Micah's Dr. was coming back to re-introduce himself, Micah was in the middle of lifting a ride on car into his bed! It was quite comical. The dr. said he thinks we'll be good friends in the future! What can I say? He likes to move furniture around just like his mom! When it was finally time to take Micah back for surgery they allowed Chris to go with him for the anesthesia (pregnant women can't go back).

Practicing the "gas mask" with daddy!

Chris said he did really well with that, it was just like a really sleepy boy. I then met Chris in the waiting area and by that time we were both starving. We went downstairs quickly to grab a bite to eat and just as we were finishing our dinner the Dr. came out to tell us everything was great and Micah should be waking up shortly. It was a quick little surgery! Going in to see him was pretty sad. He was really upset and mad about the whole situation. He tried to get the IV out by himself and pull off all the sticky monitors. The poor nurse was getting the evil eye from him! The Anesthesiologist said that he woke up really fast and bumped his head on the bed rail. That's my boy! Initially after surgery they said he woke up smiling and happy, but then he got a little mad! They gave him a popsicle and that made him feel a little better but later it ended up all over Chris. In fact, it ended up on Chris about 3X before we left the recovery area.

Pretty angry after surgery. Even George the Curious Doctor couldn't make him smile! Green popsicle all over the face too!

He was throwing up for a few hours after the surgery but then we finally got his stomach to settle and he was off to bed. He woke up in a great mood this morning and seems like a new boy! He's been talking a mile a minute and seems to have lost a lot of his inhibition. It's pretty funny. All in all it wasn't a terrible experience. We are thankful we did it and hope to hear good results from the testing. The Dr. suspects it is just a malformation of the blood vessels that needed to be removed.

Feeling pretty good today and almost back to normal!

Micah is already becoming quite comfortable with his cast and it seems like he'll do just fine with it! Thanks for all your prayers and concern. We're so proud of our brave little guy!

He did so great! I can't believe that was all from the mouse trap incident. Crazy. Those are great pictures..."war wounds" for Micah's life box! Give him hugs and kisses from us!

I'm glad eveything went so well! I love the pictures of him before the surgery and the one where he is smiling with his cast. What a cutie! I'm glad that it wasn't too hard on you, although I can imagine that it was emotionally trying.
