[from chris]
Well, this morning at 6AM Amy and I dropped J.R. and Megan [Our pastor and wife from Colorado Springs] off at the airport. We feel like we have been busy nonstop for about two weeks now and haven't had a chance to catch everyone up on what has been going on.
In the days leading up to J.R. and Megan's arrival we bought a puppy [it was my birthday present to Amy] and found a great priced, reliable used car [the car we were borrowing died in the middle of the highway and I had to push it off while Amy steered]. As Amy shared in the last post, we experienced one of the most indescribable events in the Thai fire festaval, LoyKratong. On Tuesday last week we returned to the villiage where we had tea with the witch doctor [see my last post] and had tea with a man named Timothy and his wife Esther. In January they became the first family in this village to become Christians. Since then two other families have become Christians because of their example. When a villager becomes a Christian in the hill tribe culture they stop giving offerings to the spirits for health and protection. The first Christian family is watched by all the neighbors to see if they remain healthy even though they aren't giving the proper sacrifices. If they do remain healthy others begin to follow. Continue to pray for Timothy and Esther's health and witness.
On Wednsday we went to Myanmar to renew our visas and took the short drive to the Golden Triangle [where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos all touch the same river]. J.R., Megan, Amy and I took a boat ride across the river into Laos so we set foot on three countries in under 24 hours. Each of the three countries has such a different financial and political situation. It is amazing the diversity within a few hundred feet.
In the next few days we'll update you on some of the other adventures we had last week. Hope you enjoy.
